Delta Police Boss Relocates To Ughelli As Over 57 SARS Storm Ughelli To Fish Out Killers Of ACP

The Delta State police command has drafted over 75 officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to the Ughelli local government area to fish out those behind this week’s dastardly murder of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the Ughelli Area Command, Usman Ndanbabo, by unidentified gunmen.

Mr. Ndanbabo was shot at about 8 p.m. on Sunday night by men, suspected to be assassins while returning from an outing in his Nissan SUV.  Noticing that he was being trailed by a Toyota car, the officer tried to flee on foot when he got to the roundabout opposite the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli, on Isoko Road.  That was when his assailants opened fire on him at close range and was confirmed dead died later in Warri, to which he was rushed for emergency medical attention.
Speaking in confidence, a police source at the Ughelli Police Station told SaharaReporters that Zanna Ibrahim, the state Commissioner of Police, relocated to Ughelli on Tuesday with the SARS team armed with an order to arrest Mr. Ndanbabo’s, killers dead or alive.

"As I talk to you several road blocks and checking points have been mounted at strategic places in and around Ughelli,” the source said.  “We have gotten a reliable clue on the killing of the ACP and that is what the command is working on right now to fish out all those behind the unholy act. With the information at our disposal now, it won’t take us long to record success in the arrest of the gunmen."

Meanwhile, the police have also launched a manhunt for the Fulani herdsmen who on Tuesday ambushed and killed four policemen attached to the Abraka Police Division in Ethiope East local government area of the state.

The policemen, it was gathered, had gone to visit the border area between Eku and Oria communities which has been in dispute between an oil company and the locals when they were ambushed.

It would be recalled that tension was high in Urhuoka-Abraka community in the area following the beheading of a member of the community, Solomon Ejor.

Mr. Ejor, a welder, who was killed while trying to rescue his mother, Maria Ejor, who was being held hostage on her farm by the herdsmen.

Angered by the inaction of the traditional ruler over the continued killings, angry indigenes retrieved the mutilated body of the victim and dumped it in the palace of the Ovie of Oruarivie-Abraka to register their anger.  Upon sighting the angry mob with the corpse of the slain welder, the monarch took to his heels through the back gate of the palace to an unknown destination to avoid seeing the corpse, which is a taboo for a monarch in Urhobo.

Speaking to a SaharaReporters correspondent, the President-General of the community,  Dr. Tedwins Emudainohwo, confirmed the beheading of the indigene, noting that even his own car was also destroyed in the youths’ uproar over the incident.

He confirmed that the angry mob had taken the corpse to the palace with the intention of desecrating the palace, in addition to the fact that it is a taboo for the Ovie to see a corpse.  He added that unless something is done urgently, the people of Abraka might wake up one morning to see that the community is no more.

For several months now the people of Abraka have been experiencing killings, maiming, raping, robberies and other attacks by armed Fulani herdsmen.  They accuse the police and the Governor Okowa-led administration of doing little or nothing to curb the incessant attacks on their community.
