The deadly danger in common food

Some of our favourite ingredients include toxins that can make us very sick indeed… By Veronique Greenwood 17 April 2017 We've all suffered from the occasional overindulgence, and most of us likely have a few dodgy oysters or shrimp canapes ruefully enshrined in our memory. But by and large, we eat pretty safely these days. While some thrill-seekers search for fugu – the Japanese pufferfish, which is laden with the nerve poison tetradotoxin – and risk becoming one of its surprisingly numerous victims, most of us prefer a diet that is a good deal more innocuous. For all that, you might be surprised to learn that some familiar foods are next-door neighbours to things which can be very harmful to our health. Rhubarb pies and jams are favourite seasonal delights. What's summer without a pan of tart red stems simmering on the stove, ready to be decanted into a waiting crust? The lush plants, with their spreading green leaves, are traditional adornments to the backyard

Real Madrid v Bayern Munich: Carlo Ancelotti says referee 'not up to task'

Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti said referee Viktor Kassai "wasn't up to the task" of a Champions League quarter-final and called for video technology "as soon as possible". Bayern midfielder Arturo Vidal was sent off for two bookable offences, while Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo scored in extra time from an offside position as the Spanish holders won  6-3 on aggregate  on Tuesday. "We had thought of everything going into this game - except the referee," Ancelotti said. "You can't decide a semi-final spot like this. It shouldn't happen at this level." Ancelotti, a former Madrid boss, also said current Real manager Zinedine Zidane agreed with his assessment of Hungarian referee Kassai's "negative" performance at the Bernabeu. "The referee probably wasn't up to the task," Ancelotti said. "I don't think Real Madrid have any influence on referees. The officials tonight simply got

List Of States In Nigeria That Biafra Agitators Want

Recently, there has been a renewed struggle for the Republic of Biafra by members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) in Nigeria and outside the country. Nearly 50 years after the Biafran War (July 6, 1967 – January 15, 1970) which almost destroyed the unity of Nigeria, its agitators have refused to give up the struggle. It constituted the former Eastern region of Nigeria and was inhabited principally by Igbo (Ibo) people. Biafra has been commonly divided into four main “tribes”: the Igbos, the Ibibio-Efiks, the Ijaws and the Ogojas. If finally granted just like the South Sudan, these are the likely States that may be ceased to be in Nigeria: Abia Anambra Akwa Ibom Bayelsa Enugu Ebonyi Imo Delta Rivers Cross River Igbanke in Edo Southern part of Benue state
